Hanning gives up coaching position in Potsdam at the end of the season
Bob Hanning, Managing Director of handball Bundesliga club Füchse Berlin, will end his coaching duties at cooperation partner VfL Potsdam at the end of the season. "We will sit down in January, I have a clear idea for VfL. We will discuss this in a very confidential manner. I will definitely stay with VfL, also in the absolute interest of Füchse Berlin. But I will no longer work as coach of VfL Potsdam after this season," said the 55-year-old on "handball.world".
The promoted second division team from Potsdam leads the table after 13 match days. A promotion could end the current cooperation, which Hanning is against. "Both clubs live from and with each other, because they can give talented players at all levels the time they need. That's why the first and second leagues are the best constellation right now," said the former vice president of the German Handball Federation, "I believe that all the players we have at the Foxes and in Potsdam are in the right place right now." In addition, 13 games have just been played "and we all know that the difficult games between now and Christmas could result in a different constellation in the table."
However, Hanning will not oppose the continuation of the winning streak in the second division: "I have trained many young people to win games. And I try to develop this mentality every day. I would never voluntarily give away a game, not even the last one. Never."
Despite Hanning's expressed interest in continuing his involvement with VfL Potsdam beyond his coaching role, the promotion of the club to the Bundesliga's top tier could potentially discontinue their current partnership. In the 2nd league, VfL Potsdam, often referred to as the 'Foxes', currently maintains a leading position, thanks in part to Hanning's guidance as a coach.
