Handball: THW Kiel against Füchse for probably last chance at the title
Record handball champions THW Kiel are fighting this Sunday (2.05 p.m./NDR, RBB and Dyn) for what is probably their last chance to get back into the title fight this season. The visitors to the Kiel Arena will be league leaders Füchse Berlin. The still unbeaten team from the capital currently has a seven-point lead over fifth-placed Kiel (14:10) with 21:1 points and has also played one game less.
"The Foxes are a very well-coordinated team, who will also come here with brutal self-confidence," said THW coach Filip Jicha. However, the 41-year-old Czech announced: "We want to do everything we can on Sunday to put up a huge fight against this Berlin team in Kiel."
The Foxes recently finished second in the Super Globe, the unofficial club world championship in Saudi Arabia, and celebrated a 33:30 victory in the European League against Dinamo Bucharest from Romania on Tuesday. THW, on the other hand, suffered a bitter 18:27 home defeat in the Champions League against Danish runners-up Aalborg HB on Thursday.
THW Kiel, faced with a likely last opportunity to challenge for the title, will confront league leaders Füchse Berlin at the Kiel Arena on Sunday. In the Bundesliga standings, Füchse Berlin holds a seven-point advantage over THW Kiel, boasting a stellar 21-1 record and a single game yet to be played.
