UEFA Champions League Competition - Handball players from Bietigheim suffer defeat in the finals.
SG BBM Bietigheim's handball team came close to winning the first Champions League title for a German women's team, but fell short in the final. On Sunday night, the German champions lost to the Hungarian record champions Audi ETO Györ with a score of 24-30 (12-17). They had earned a spot in the final after a surprising 36-29 win against Metz Handball from France the day before. Making it to the final was a major achievement for the club, and their best result so far.
The game started with Bietigheim trailing behind. Their offense was full of errors, causing Györ to take a 6-2 lead after just 11 minutes. Coach Jakob Vestergaard quickly called a timeout, but the Bietigheimers couldn't catch up to the fast-paced Hungarians, even after the break. They were also outclassed in the goalkeeper duel.
Kari Dale Brattset and Ana Gros were the top scorers of the game, each scoring six goals. For the Bietigheimers, Sofia Hvenfelt was the most successful with five goals.
