For the first time in German history, SG BBM Bietigheim's women's handball team is in the Champions League final. This occurred on Saturday in Budapest as they defeated French club Metz Handball with a score of 36:29 (14:15). The impressive performance was led by goalkeeper Gabriela Moreschi with 17 saves and Captain Xenia Smits' nine goals and remarkable defense.

On Sunday at 6 p.m., the SG is set to face Audi ETO Györ, the Champions League's record title holders from Hungary, who won against Team Esbjerg (Denmark) with 24:23 in the other semi-final. This will be the first time a German participant has attended this tournament in Budapest since 2014, and the first time since Walle Bremen in 1995 that a German team has made it to the semi-finals.

While initially nervous with some shaky shots in attack, the Courteous Underdog held their ground alongside the Metz, with Moreschi contributing greatly by already saving eight shots before the break. Furthermore, the defense was notable for its steadiness. Bietigheim took the lead with a four-goal lead of 22:18 (42nd minute) and Moreschi seemed to flourish more as the game developed. They almost clinched victory at 27:22 (48th minute), though the game was finally decided with a score of 32:26.
