Urban development - Hanau postpones opening of the former Kaufhof building
Hanau shifts the opening of the new shopping and leisure center Stadthof in the former Kaufhof building to the coming March. Representatives of the city stated that an opening before Christmas was not sensible in the first place. The new opening date is now mentioned as March 13, 2025 - exactly two years after the announcement of the closure of the Hanauer Kaufhof branch.
The city has bought the property for 25 million Euros, approximately 40 million Euros are planned to be invested in the further development of the area in the best city location in the coming years. Plans include a mix of shops, gastronomy, leisure, cultural and educational institutions.
According to the city administration, the first tenant in Stadthof is already secured: Toynamics Europe GmbH with headquarters in Mücke (District Vogelsberg). The company specializing in wooden toys is said to belong to the Hape Group of Companies with worldwide 3,000 employees, according to the statements.
The shopping and leisure center Stadthof, set to open in Hanau's former Kaufhof building, was initially intended for a Christmas opening but was postponed to March due to unforeseen circumstances. The municipalities of Hesse have invested significantly in the area's urban development, allocating approximately 40 million Euros for this project. Trade, leisure, culture, and education will all have a place in the revitalized space, attracting residents and visitors alike. Furthermore, Toynamics Europe GmbH, a renowned wooden toy manufacturer from Mücke, has secured the first tenant spot in Stadthof, contributing to the city's vibrant leisure time activities.
