Hamburg's left fights back against Olympic memorandum
Hamburg's opposition party Die Linke is opposing a possible German bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the next decade, in which Hamburg also wants to participate. The campaign by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) could "neither hide the ongoing corruption in the IOC nor the gagging contracts for the cities", said Left Party MP Heike Sudmann on Wednesday.
The Hamburg Senate decided on Tuesday that the second largest German city would sign a so-called "Memorandum of Understanding" with the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and the federal government. This memorandum sets out how a bid process will be reviewed and how a possible hosting concept will be drawn up.
Neither the public nor the citizens had been informed about the memorandum to date, complained Sudmann and demanded: "This signature must be revoked."
The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) is actively involving Hamburg in their application for hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as evident in the signed Memorandum of Understanding. Despite this, opposition MP Heike Sudmann from Olympia, the left party in Hamburg, denounces the DOSB's campaign, revealing the ongoing corruption within the IOC and city gagging contracts.
