German Handball League - Hamburg's handball team secures the long-awaited Bundesliga license.

The HSV Hamburg is set to participate in the 2024/25 Handball Bundesliga season after meeting the necessary conditions for obtaining a playing license. According to the Handball League Association (HBL), the required financial security deposit from Hamburg Handball Sports Club has been deposited into the league's account.

The announcement came as a relief for many, including HSV Hamburg business manager Sebastian Frecke, who said, "We're all thrilled and relieved that everything has worked out and we can now confirm with absolute certainty that we have a license for the upcoming season and will be in our fourth season in the Handball Bundesliga."

On the other hand, the Bergische HC, a sporting club facing relegation, had been attempting to prevent further licensing decisions for the Hamburg team until their arbitration proceedings were concluded. Their attempts were unsuccessful, as the HBL statement indicated.

The BHC argued that HSV Hamburg lacked the necessary economic foundation and that the license should not be granted. However, their efforts weren't in vain, as a hearing before the arbitration court is scheduled for June 14, during which they will seek compensation as a victim.

BHC's business manager Jörg Föste commented, "Our initial assessment from mid-April has been confirmed by recent events. It was a wise decision to pursue this strategy and to remain steadfast in our efforts."

In summary, HSV Hamburg is set to play in the Handball Bundesliga next season, with the license granted after meeting the necessary financial requirements. Meanwhile, the Bergische HC, relegated team number two behind HBW Balingen-Weilstetten, will continue to argue their case before the arbitration court for potential compensation.
