Hamburger SV's seventh attempt at promotion starts in Cologne

The fixture list for the 2024/25 second division season is out. HSV opens with a traditional clash. Hannover 96 start against a newly promoted team, Eintracht Braunschweig travel to Gelsenkirchen.

Bundesliga 2 - Hamburger SV's seventh attempt at promotion starts in Cologne

The seventh attempt of Hamburger SV to return to the Football-Bundesliga starts with relegated 1. FC Cologne. This was announced by the German Football League (DFL). The traditional derby match will take place on August 2 (8:30 pm/Sat.1). Whether Hannover 96 and Eintracht Braunschweig play on August 3 or 4 is still not clear. The exact schedules will follow. Here's an overview of the encounters of the Northern second division teams:

Hamburger SV

The match at the Rhine is followed by the home game against Hertha BSC (September 9-11). A Volkspark double pack against the promoters Preußen Münster and Jahn Regensburg is scheduled for matchdays four (August 30-September 1) and five (September 13-15).

Hannover 96

For trainer Stefan Leitl and Hannover 96, the series starts with games against two promoters. To begin with, Regensburg visits the Lower Saxon state capital. After that, it's off to Münster. At the third matchday (August 23-25), Hannover 96 receives Hamburger SV at home. "We're looking forward to a home game to start with. An opponent as a debutant is something we've gotten used to by now," said sport director Marcus Mann.

Eintracht Braunschweig

With the match against Schalke 04 and the home game against 1. FC Magdeburg, coach Daniel Scherning and Eintracht Braunschweig begin the new season. The big Niedersachsen derby against Hannover 96 already takes place at the eighth matchday (October 4-6) in the Eintracht-Stadion an der Hamburger Straße.
