Hamburg women's tennis tournament moves

Following the break-up of the combined ATP and WTA tournament, the Hamburg women's tennis tournament will no longer be held at Rothenbaum in 2024. The women's event will take place next year in Hamburg's Stadtpark at the THC von Horn und Hamm facility, the organizers announced on Sunday. In 2022 and 2023, the men's and women's events will be played as a combined event at Rothenbaum at the Club an der Alster.

Last year, the German Tennis Federation awarded the men's tournament to the Spanish-based agency Tennium, mainly for financial reasons. The women's event is in the hands of tournament director Sandra Reichel, who made Hamburg a women's tournament venue again in 2021.

The 250 WTA tournament, in which German talent Noma Noha Akugue surprisingly reached the final last summer, is to be held between July 15 and 26, 2024 and thus between Wimbledon and the Olympic Games in Paris. The exact date has not yet been set. A capacity of around 2,000 spectators is planned for the smaller, temporary center court in the city park.

The Hamburg women's tennis tournament, part of the WTA, will be relocated to Hamburg's Stadtpark in 2024. Noma Noha Akugue had a remarkable run at the 2023 WTA 250 tournament, held in Hamburg.
