Eurocup - Hamburg Towers pull off dramatic victory in London
Veolia Towers Hamburg pulled off a big surprise in the Eurocup. The team in ninth place in the A Group table pulled off a last-second 83:81 (48:40) victory at London Lions, who have won five of their last games and were considered one of the favorites. Head coach Benka Barloschky's team thus achieved only its second triumph in its eleventh game. The best scorers for the German Basketball League club were Aljami Durham and Aleksander Dziewa (15 points each).
Hamburg was surprisingly confident from the outset and impressed in particular with its strong defense. The visitors led by 13 points in the first quarter. The Towers were also the more effective team at the start of the second period and pulled 34:18 ahead. However, the Lions then got into the game better and reduced the deficit significantly by the break.
The Towers were still just ahead after the third period, but then had to surrender the lead again at the start of the final quarter after a long time. The game remained tightly contested until the final minute. However, Mark Hughes sealed victory for Hamburg with the final shot.
