Basketball - Hamburg Towers fight for victory against newly promoted Tübingen

48 hours after their surprising success in the Eurocup in London, the Veolia Towers Hamburg have gone one better in the German Basketball League. After an impressive comeback, the team of Head Coach Benka Barloschky won the opening clash against newly promoted Tigers Tübingen 94:86 (41:48) in front of 3,207 spectators in the Inselparkhalle on Friday evening. Hamburg thus celebrated its seventh win in its eleventh game. The best scorer for the Hanseatic side was William Christmas (21 points).

The game was almost evenly poised in the first quarter. It was not until shortly before the end that the Towers took their biggest lead in the first ten minutes (18:14). The Hanseatic club briefly pulled six points ahead in the second period. Tübingen first recaptured the lead with an 8:0 run and extended it by the break.

After the break, Tübingen kept the home side at bay thanks to its high shooting percentage from beyond the arc and was even twelve points ahead at one stage. However, the Towers fought their way back to 70:73 before the final period. Barloschky's team turned the game around again in that spell and it was finally Lukas Meisner who sealed victory with a three to make it 91:83 with one minute remaining.
