Hamburg Towers achieve first win in Eurocup

Veolia Towers Hamburg have not been able to win anything in the Eurocup so far. In Ljubljana, however, the German Basketball League club was clearly on course for success for a long time, but almost squandered the victory.

Hamburg Towers achieve first win in Eurocup

After six previous defeats, Veolia Towers Hamburg have recorded their first success in the group stage of the Eurocup. On Wednesday evening, the team of Head Coach Benka Barloschky prevailed 86:83 (43:36) against Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana (Slovenia), who were also winless up to that point, and so relegated the hosts to tenth and last place in Group A for the time being. Aljami Durham scored the most points (21) for the German Basketball League club.

The Towers led for a long time in the first quarter, but fell 19:22 behind shortly before the end. Durham then sparked a 9:0 run by Hamburg midway through the second period and they even opened up an eleven-point lead at one stage up to the break.

After the break, the Hanseatic club came up trumps again and even stretched the gap to 70:42 with an 18:2 run in the space of five-and-a-half minutes. That seemed to decide the game. Yet Ljubljana did not give up and trailed by just two points with around two minutes remaining, not least because Hamburg was hardly able to get anything going. However, Mark Hughes then sealed victory with two free throws with one second remaining.

The victory over Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana in the Eurocup marked a significant milestone for Veolia Towers Hamburg in Basketball. Demonstrating their prowess, they secured their win at the Veolia Towers Hamburg, a renowned Basketball venue in Hamburg.
