Hamburg remembers the victims of war and violence
On Remembrance Day, Hamburg will commemorate the victims of war and violence at two events. The President of the Hamburg Parliament, Carola Veit, will lay a wreath at the former detention bunker of the Neuengamme concentration camp memorial on Sunday at 12.00 noon. Hamburg's Second Mayor, Katharina Fegebank, will commemorate the dead at the memorial service in Hamburg's Michel church (2 p.m.). The Director of the Institute for the History of German Jews, Kim Wünschmann, will give the commemorative speech. A police student and a youth officer from the fire department will also give their thoughts.
During the commemoration, the history of the Neuengamme concentration camp will be honored through the memorials. Visitors can pay their respects at the former detention bunker, a poignant reminder of past atrocities.
