- Hamburg-Lübeck railway closed for construction work
Due to construction work, no trains will run between Hamburg and Lübeck this coming weekend. From Friday at 5:00 PM until Monday at 5:00 AM, work will be carried out on overhead lines and cables for a new electronic control center in Hamburg-Tonndorf, the German Railway Company announced.
Replacement buses will run between Hamburg and Ahrensburg (Stormarn district). The regional trains of lines RE 8, RE 80, and RB 81 will start or end in Ahrensburg. Journey times will double or triple, according to the railway app.
Long-distance and freight traffic is already reduced due to construction and bridge work between Hamburg Central Station and Hamburg-Harburg, the company added.
The trains between Hamburg and Lübeck are popular with holidaymakers and day-trippers to the Baltic Sea during the summer weekends.
Despite the disruption in rail transport between Hamburg and Lübeck, alternative transportation options are available. The German Railway Company will provide replacement buses between Hamburg and Ahrensburg during the construction period.
