Hamburg honors the memory of revered fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld with a named walkway.
Despite departing from his hometown Hamburg in the 1950s, the artist's influence and work remain vibrant in the city, shared Carsten Brosda, the Culture Senator of SPD, during the dedication of the promenade. This venture also includes a slice of the well-known Alster Wanderweg trail. The renaming initiative originated from a collaborative effort between a journalist and a bookseller.
Born to a Hamburg milk factory proprietor, Lagerfeld's youth was spent on a Schleswig-Holstein estate. Later, his mother decided to enroll him in a Parisian school, which eventually led to his successful career in the fashion sphere. As the creative head of the luxury label Chanel for 36 years, he played a significant role in shaping the global fashion scene.
