Heavy rain and thunderstorms kept Hamburg fire departments busy for over five hours on Thursday afternoon and evening, according to a spokesperson for the Hamburg Fire Department speaking to the German Press Agency. The responders reportedly pumped out mostly flooded basements and garages and freed clogged or overflowing gutters. The storm also uprooted many trees. Firefighters cleared streets of fallen branches in some areas.

According to the spokesperson, the southern parts of the city were particularly affected - including the districts of Bergedorf, Harburg and Wandsbek. On Thursday afternoon, the city experienced heavy rain and thunderstorms with intense lightning and thunder.

Due to the storm over North Germany, train traffic on the line between Hamburg and Bremen was halted on Thursday. The trains were running again at night on Friday, but significantly slowed down. The track was not passable in some places due to flooding, as a spokeswoman for the railway announced. Train traffic on the line ran smoothly again at Friday midday. At Tostedt (Landkreis Harburg), heavy thunderstorms caused flooding on the tracks on Thursday.

The thunderstorm was so severe that it led to the uprooting of numerous trees in Hamburg. Despite the constant rain and thunder, the brave firefighters worked tirelessly to clear the streets of fallen branches. The heavy rain and thunderstorms, as reported by the German Press Agency, lasted over five hours in Hamburg, causing significant damage and disruptions.
