Statistics - Hamburg construction industry grew in the first quarter
The Hamburg Construction Main Trade has significantly increased its sales in the first quarter compared to the previous year. According to the Statistical Office North, sales amounted to approximately 520 million Euro in the first three months of the year. This represents an increase of 10.4 percent compared to the same period last year. After adjusting for inflation, the increase was still 9.4 percent. According to the statistics, 131 Hamburg construction companies with more than 20 employees were considered.
The trenching sector in particular has developed positively. Excluding road construction, sales increased by 34.5 percent after adjusting for inflation. Sales in trenching, such as for improving rail infrastructure or bridges, reportedly rose significantly by 63.6 percent to 88 million Euro. The housing sector also developed positively with a plus of 5.3 percent. In contrast, the road construction sector suffered a decline in sales, which the statisticians reported to be down 11 percent.
Unfortunately, the order intakes did not develop positively in the first quarter. Their value decreased by 15.1 percent compared to the previous year to 438 million Euro. The most significant decline was in the construction sector with a minus of 42.6 percent, but excluding housing construction. The commercial construction sector, which includes office buildings, apartment buildings, hotels, or cinemas, had to accept a loss of 46.4 percent, amounting to 124 million Euro. In housing construction, however, the construction companies were able to record an increase in order volumes of over a quarter to around 126 million Euro.
