Hamas's Top Figure Pens Correspondences from Secret Location Following Nearly 12 Months of Quietness
Sinwar, considered Gaza's hidden political head of Hamas, as per belief, communicated with Nasrallah, mentioning that Hamas remains dedicated to the path of resistance, as followed by their late leader Ismail Haniyeh, and to the unity of the Muslim community, focusing on the Axis of Resistance in confronting the Zionist endeavor.
The letter, disseminated via Hezbollah's Telegram channel, was distributed to express appreciation for Hezbollah's relentless battle against Israel, which commenced on October 8, following a Hamas-led militant assault on Israel that precipitated a devastating Israeli onslaught on Gaza.
Israel's most sought-after fugitive, Sinwar, has not been sighted since the conflict. There had been no public remarks from him for close to a year – until recently. He broke his silence on Tuesday, offering his congratulations to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for his election victory, as per Hamas' Telegram channel. The following day, his office announced that he had written letters expressing gratitude towards those who had offered condolences for Haniyeh's demise. And on Friday, the letter to Nasrallah was released. CNN cannot authenticate if Sinwar indeed penned the letters.
Assuming the role of Hamas' political leader after Haniyeh's assassination in Tehran in July, Sinwar is regarded as more rigorous in his dealings with Israel, advocating for collaboration and stronger bonds with Iran and allied Islamist groups like Hezbollah.
He vowed to persist in the quest to safeguard Islamic religious sites, specifically Jerusalem's Al Aqsa Mosque, "until the expulsion and annihilation of the occupation from our land, and the establishment of our self-governing state with complete sovereignty and Jerusalem as its capital."
He described the October 7 attack as "one of the most noble battles in our Palestinian people's history."
CNN correspondents Ibrahim Dahman and Eyad Kourdi contributed to this report.
Despite the ongoing tension between Israel and the Middle East, Sinwar's letters highlight Hamas' commitment to maintaining unity with the Muslim community worldwide, particularly within the Axis of Resistance. The Zionist endeavor, as referred to by Sinwar, is a collective challenge that Hamas and its allies are determined to confront.
