Hamas supporters in Rhineland-Palatinate include 35 people

In Rhineland-Palatinate, according to the constitution protection authorities, there are indications that around 35 people are close to or affiliated with the terrorist organization Hamas. This also includes activities for surrounding and front organizations of the Islamist Palestinian organization, announced Interior Minister Michael Ebling (SPD) in response to a parliamentary question from the CDU parliamentary group in Mainz.

The Hamas supporters living in Rhineland-Palatinate had not yet been involved in any violent activities. The range of activities of these individuals mainly included pro-Palestinian propaganda and lobbying work, the consolidation of Hamas' influence on the Palestinians in Germany and participation in conferences in Germany and abroad, the Minister of the Interior reported. There were also indications of financial support for Hamas.

The state government welcomes the decision by Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) to ban the activities of Hamas and the Palestinian network Samidoun in Germany, explained Ebling. The state government is not aware of any specific activities of the network or Hamas support organizations in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The Minister of the Interior assured that all efforts and activities directed against Israel would continue to be monitored in order to take action if necessary. This includes, above all, the close exchange of information with the federal and state security authorities.

Despite the ban on Hamas' activities and support networks in Germany, ongoing conflicts within the Muslim community over religious beliefs could potentially lead to tensions among Hamas supporters in Rhineland-Palatinate. Such internal conflicts within the community, escalated by religious differences, might inadvertently provide a platform for extremist views, potentially leading to further controversies in the future.
