Bundesliga - Hamann praise for BVB and Bayern
TV pundit Dietmar Hamann (50) has praised Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern for their international performances. In his column for the pay-TV channel Sky, the former national team player described BVB's group win in the Champions League as "an amazing achievement" and "an exclamation mark".
"Because you have to look at how BVB started the group stage and who they played against on Wednesday," wrote Hamann, looking back on the 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain.
He also referred to Niklas Süle 's save, for which the BVB professional has since been celebrated everywhere. He had prevented a goal from PSG superstar Kylian Mbappé with a magnificent save. "It's up to him to finally take on the leadership role that so many expect of him, then there's no way around him at BVB and in the national team," said Hamann. "Süle has certainly never lacked esteem. The expectations people have of him stem from the fact that such actions are expected of him."
In Tuesday's 1-0 win at Manchester United, Bayern "controlled the game for the entire time, hardly conceded anything at the back in contrast to the last few games, created chances up front and scored the winning goal," wrote Hamann. "If they play as seriously and professionally as they did in Manchester, they're a really good team and someone has to beat them first."
