Hallescher FC leaves the relegation zone after 2:1 in Freiburg
Halle FC have left the relegation zone in the 3rd Football League. Coach Sreto Ristic's charges won the catch-up match at the second team of SC Freiburg 2:1 (1:1) on Tuesday and thus overtook VfB Lübeck in the table. The Red & Whites took the lead in the basement duel through Tunay Deniz in the 18th minute. Maximilian Breunig (34) equalized. Dominic Baumann (53) scored his eleventh goal of the season from the penalty spot to give the Saalestadt side their second away win of the season. Freiburg remain in penultimate place.
Both teams acted very nervously, also in view of the explosive sporting constellation. Clear chances were few and far between, as misplaced passes on both sides hampered the flow of the game. Lukas Ambros' attempt (2') flew just over the Halle goal. Timur Gayret (12) missed the Freiburg goal by half a meter. The hosts successfully completed their first successful attack. Aljaz Casar served Nico Hug. Deniz headed his cross from the left into the net. Jonas Nietfeld's header (23) was deflected over the crossbar by Freiburg goalkeeper Benjamin Uphoff. The visitors' joy at taking the lead lasted less than a quarter of an hour. Maximilian Breunig found himself free four meters from the HFC goal and shot in to make it 1:1.
The visitors made a perfect start to the second half. After Nietfeld (51) narrowly missed taking the lead again, the second successful offensive move by the team from Halle led to success. Deniz played Baumann free, who put the ball past Uphoff. The goalkeeper could only stop the goalscorer at the cost of a foul. Baumann (53) converted the penalty to make it 2:1, but the visitors had to tremble for the three points until the final whistle. Baumann (72') failed to beat Uphoff. Nietfeld (73) headed just wide of the far post. HFC keeper Moritz Schulze had previously prevented the equalizer with a brilliant save from Breunig (69').
In the 3rd league, Halle FC's victory over Freiburg's second team moved them out of the relegation zone, as they now find themselves in a safer position in the standings. Despite the tension, the match at the 'Hall' stadium saw limited clear chances, with both teams struggling to maintain their composure.
