Adieu, farewell, until you're gone. - Halle hosts a memorial service for the late Peter Sodann.

A remembrance celebration for actor Peter Sodann will be held in Halle on Saturday at 11am. Organized by the city of Halle and its theaters, the event will serve as a send-off for this esteemed citizen. Attendees can offer their condolences, and there will be a theater program featuring speeches, music, and cinematic tributes to Sodann. Over 300 people have been invited.

For those unable to attend the indoor event, the theaters of Halle have made arrangements for guests to experience it in the courtyard. MDR television will cover the ceremony live. Peter Sodann would have turned 88 years old on June 1.

The well-known German actor, director, and playhouse commander became famous for portraying the cranky Chief Commissioner Bruno Ehrlicher in the show "Tatort," a role he held from 1992 to 2007. Sodann was born in Meissen, Saxony, in a working-class family. He initially pursued a career as a toolmaker, but then switched to law and eventually found his way to the Leipzig Theater Academy for further study.

Sodann also owned a cabaret, which closed in 1961 after its content was deemed anti-revolutionary, resulting in his arrest for treason. He was later monitored by the Stasi.

Sodann left his mark on the theater world, as well. As the head of several stages, he cultivated a cultural hub at his Halle residence. He was awarded the National Prize in East Germany in 1986 and received the Bundesverdienstkreuz in 2001.

MDR television will broadcast the funeral ceremony for the memorial event at the Theaters Halle.
