Halle Future Center to generate higher revenues for the city
The future center planned in Halle is set to bring the city significantly higher revenues - and the tourism industry in particular is set to benefit. 500,000 future visitors would increase Halle's annual gross turnover by around 150 million euros, the city announced on Monday. If one million people were to come, this would almost double the current annual tourism turnover - by 268 million euros. The calculations are based on visitor forecasts from the federal government. In addition to the European relevance of the center and its impetus for urban development, the city also expects positive economic, tourist and financial effects, it said.
The calculations show how important the fight for the location award was, explained Halle's mayor Egbert Geier (non-party). "Local companies benefit directly from the increase in tourism. The city center and urban development will be strengthened and we expect corresponding follow-up investments in urban development. Last but not least, the unique educational and event offerings of the Future Center will promote the quality of life and image of our city immensely."
The construction of the Future Center for German Unity and European Transformation is expected to create around 200 new jobs in Halle. According to the city, Halle's gross tourism revenue in the hospitality, retail and service sectors currently amounts to around 270 million euros per year. The tax revenue from value-added tax and income tax is therefore around 25 million euros per year. The center as a meeting and research center is to be built in the center of Halle by 2028 and will cost around 200 million euros.
The city's expectations extend beyond just financial gains, as they also anticipate positive impacts on local businesses and urban development due to the increased tourism. (Finances, Municipalities)
