Fire department operation - Hall on shipyard site on fire - surrounding houses evacuated
Due to a fire on the premises of the Lürssen-Kroger shipyard in Schacht-Audorf at the North-Ostsee Canal, nearby houses have been evacuated. Approximately 30 people were affected, according to a police spokesperson. The reason being that the area was frequently engulfed by large, dark smoke plumes. The affected individuals can find shelter in a school in Schacht-Audorf, according to police statements. The shipyard had already been evacuated before. The shipping traffic on the North-Ostsee Canal is reportedly unaffected. The cause and extent of the damage are still unclear according to police.
In the morning, a fire broke out in a ship hall where a yacht is located. Several hundred firefighters are on site to extinguish the flames. According to estimates from the fire department and police, it is expected to take until the night or even the early hours of Wednesday for the fire to be completely put out.
