Half of Germans listen to podcasts - many would like to record themselves

At hearing habits, there are therefore differences between age groups. Among those between 16 and 29 years old, 51% listen to podcasts according to a survey. Among those aged 65 and above, it is only 35%. In the middle-aged groups of 30 to 49 years and 50 to 64 years, it is 46% and 50% respectively, according to the survey.

The number of listeners increased only slightly compared to the previous year. However, only 33% of Germans listened to podcasts four years ago, as Bitkom further reported. 27% of those who consume podcasts do so for less than an hour per week, and 23% for more than three hours per week.

Most of those surveyed did not listen to individual episodes in their entirety, it was further reported. Only 36% of the respondents listened to podcasts regularly in their entirety. 39% played them most of the time and 21% only a small part. The optimal length for a podcast, according to the survey, was 24 minutes.

In Berlin, the trend of podcast listening is quite high, with 46% of its residents tuning in, according to Bitkom's survey. The Germans as a whole have shown significant growth in podcast listening over the past four years, with 33% engaged compared to only 33% previously. Half of the recorded Bitkom podcasts fall within the optimal length of 24 minutes.
