Hacker attack on Straßenbahn AG: Cash payments only
Following a hacker attack on the IT system of Rostocker Straßenbahn AG (RSAG), buses and streetcars will continue to run as normal on Monday. "Buses and streetcars are still not affected by the outage. However, almost all ticket machines are now working again. However, payment is only possible with cash," said an RSAG spokeswoman in Rostock on Monday. Only in a few buses are the machines not yet operational.
There are also restrictions on display boards and real-time information on the Internet. Currently, only the timetable data without possible current delays is available online, while the display boards at the bus stops are not working. In addition, only one of three customer centers is currently open, the one in Lange Straße.
According to the information provided, it is still unclear who is responsible for the IT attack. Experts from the State Office of Criminal Investigation are investigating the case, the spokeswoman said at the weekend. The attack was noticed on Saturday. According to the spokesperson, the company's telephone system was also affected by the cyber attack. An emergency contact via cell phone and email was set up at the weekend. As things stand, no customer data has been affected by the IT attack.
Despite the hacker attack, traffic on Rostocker Straßenbahn AG's buses and streetcars remains unaffected. However, due to the IT system issue, online ticket purchases and real-time traffic information are limited to cash payments and basic timetable data, respectively.
