Sustainable Heating - Habeck visited heat generation pilot project in Berlin

Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) visits a pilot project for sustainable heat generation in Berlin apartment buildings on Monday (9.30 am). The project is being carried out by real estate company Vonovia and Berlin start-up Decarbon1ze. In this project, excess energy from renewable sources is used to heat buildings through so-called grid-connected heating systems.

According to Vonovia, these grid-connected heating systems are heating elements that are installed in the hot water tanks of the houses. Instead of gas, they are operated with electricity from wind energy, which would otherwise be regulated due to excess capacity. The eastern German transmission system operator 50Hertz is also involved in the project.

  1. Robert Habeck, the Federal Economics Minister and a Green Party member, commended Vonovia's commitment to ecology during his visit to their pilot project in Berlin.
  2. As part of the pilot project, Vonovia, in partnership with Decarbon1ze, is exploring the use of grid-connected heating elements in apartment buildings, which could significantly reduce reliance on fossil fuels for heating.
  3. This innovative approach by Vonovia, a leading Real Estate Company, could set a precedent for how other buildings in Berlin and across Germany could be powered sustainably, contributing to Germany's overall ecological goals.
  4. If the pilot project proves to be successful, Robert Habeck expressed hopes that other Real Estate Companies might follow in Vonovia's footsteps, potentially leading to a fundamental shift in the energy generation and consumption in the German real estate sector.
