Literature festival - Habeck, Pflüger and Engelke come to Lit.Cologne
Bestselling authors, politicians, academics - the organizers of the international literature festival Lit.Cologne are once again expecting numerous top-class guests next year. From March 5 to 17, 2024, there will be 185 events in Cologne, more than ever before. Against the backdrop of current world events, Lit.Cologne offers orientation through "classification, facts and fact-based debates", said Managing Director Rainer Osnowski on Wednesday.
One thematic focus is the rise of anti-Semitism. Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) and publicist Michel Friedman will discuss this topic at the opening event. Former Israeli ambassador Avi Primor will speak about the situation in the Middle East.
Among the numerous authors planning to attend readings or discussions are Australian Suzie Miller, South Korean writer Han Kang and Irishman Paul Murray. Thriller fans can look forward to the successful Swedish duo Michael Hjorth and Hans Rosenfeldt, the authors of the "Sebastian Bergman" series. Andreas Pflüger, Bernhard Schlink and David Safier ("Miss Merkel") will also be there, as well as actors such as Dortmund "Tatort" actor Jörg Hartmann and his colleague from "Polizeiruf 110", Charly Hübner.
Almost 80 events are aimed at children and young people. According to the organizers, Lit.Kid.Cologne will also be "more political than ever before", with topics such as right-wing populism, climate change and poverty. But there will also be many performances of cheerful classics, such as "Leo Lausemaus" and "Ritter Rost", especially for the youngest children. Actress Anke Engelke reads from her modern adaptation of the famous "Bunny School".
