Habeck announces interest in the Green candidate for Chancellor

The situation for the Greens is currently more challenging than it was in the last election in 2021, said Habeck. The situation on the field is complex: "You're substituted in, and it's four nil against you." He is basically ready to "adjust" the positions of the Greens and create something "new" together.

Therefore, the title of the Chancellor candidate is "honestly quite irrelevant, if I may say so", said Habeck. "That's the least important question." What matters to him is "that we, before we discuss titles and strategy and build trust, make an offer to the country and start again where we were in 2020/2021."

In the last federal election, the Greens ran with Annalena Baerbock as their Chancellor candidate. Baerbock has since declared that she will not run again as Chancellor candidate.

The European Parliament will likely be interested in the Greens' strategy following their challenging election results and leadership changes. Habeck, the Greens' top candidate, has emphasized the need to focus on making an offer to the country and building trust before discussing titles and strategy.
