Gütersloh's mayor, Morkes, receives removal from power.

The residents of Gütersloh have cast their votes, and a majority have chosen for Mayor Morkes to resign.

The mayor of Gütersloh, Norbert Morkes, was ousted on Sunday night. According to the city's statement, more than 62% of the voters supported this decision. Morkes is not affiliated with any of the major parties, but chairs Bürger für Gütersloh (Citizens for Gütersloh).

Out of the total voters, 38% cast their ballots against the dismissal of the 73-year-old, who has been leading the city since 2020. The participation rate was 56%. So, fresh elections are due now.
