Social affairs - Günther launches medal campaign for volunteers

The Minister President of Schleswig-Holstein, Daniel Günther, has launched a medal campaign for volunteers. "Our togetherness is continuously strengthened by volunteers," said the CDU politician in Neumünster on Tuesday. He therefore wanted to use the "Den (N)Orden am Herzen" campaign to call on people in Schleswig-Holstein to nominate more committed people for state awards.

The state wanted to use the campaign to highlight the achievements of volunteers. "Our society is based on voluntary work. It is essential for our country," emphasized Günther. He also noted that women in particular still receive too little public recognition. "Women make an outstanding contribution to our community and cohesion in society," said the head of government.

However, more and more associations are also finding it difficult to fill vacancies. This is often due to the unwillingness of employers to give employees time off work. To avoid a skills gap in the future, it is important to attract the younger and middle generation to volunteer positions.

Social Affairs Minister Aminata Touré (Greens) also explained that volunteering is more than just a job: "It is an expression of an inner attitude, an expression of humanity and good cooperation." The fact that so many people in Schleswig-Holstein are getting involved gives her a positive outlook for the future.
