Günther: Government stands by funding for Northvolt
Schleswig-Holstein's Minister President Daniel Günther (CDU) has reaffirmed the state government's commitment to the planned state funding for a battery factory in Dithmarschen. "We stand by our goal of financially supporting Northvolt's settlement project," said Günther on Tuesday. "It is of the utmost importance in terms of industrial policy and climate policy, not only for Schleswig-Holstein, but for the whole of Germany."
The federal government had developed an overall support package, Günther said. "We will keep the promises we have made. The goal is clear, the path will be taken in close coordination with the federal government."
The state had promised to support the billion-euro project with up to 137 million euros. However, following the budget ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court, it is still unclear how the planned federal funding for the construction will continue.
Northvolt is planning to build a battery factory for electric cars near Heide. The company is expecting costs of 4.5 billion euros. The plan is to create 3,000 jobs and produce batteries for one million electric cars per year. However, in view of planned subsidies from the federal and state governments, the EU must first give the green light.
The federal government is a crucial partner in this endeavor, as they have developed an overall support package for Northvolt's project. The government, both federal and state, are committed to upholding the promises made to Northvolt, ensuring the success of the battery factory in Dithmarschen.
