Voting Processes - Günther expresses satisfaction with the CDU's performance in the EU elections.
The leader of Schleswig-Holstein's government, Daniel Günther, considers the initial forecasts of the results from the European elections as "very positive" for his party, the CDU. Speaking at a CDU event in Kiel, he stated, "We are the strongest force in Germany, and we've gained 30 percent." This is roughly equivalent to the combined support of all the parties part of the traffic light coalition, which indicates a significant loss of public trust in the current federal administration.
Despite this, there are no official election results for Schleswig-Holstein yet, so the overall trend in the country cannot be determined. "What we can infer, though, is that voter turnout has significantly increased, even compared to the previous European election," Günther clarified. The fact that so many people value Europe's significance is a significant finding.
Nevertheless, it's a "harsh reality" that the AfD has suffered a significant blow. The party has openly advocated anti-European sentiment. "It's still the responsibility of all democratic parties, including ours, to frequently emphasize how vital Europe is," Günther said. And at the moment, there's a clear majority of voters who support this viewpoint.
Based on the predictions, the Union might see a minimal increase from 28.9% to around 29.5-30%. The AfD will likely achieve its best European election result with 16% to 16.5% (11% in 2019). The SPD is projected to drop to 14% (15.8% in 2019) - its worst performance in a nationwide election. The Green party is expected to decline to 12% to 12.5% (20.5% in 2019). The FDP is staying steady at about 5% (5.4% in 2019). The Left is showing a weak showing at 2.8% to 3% (5.5% in 2019) - its worst result in European elections. The BSW is looking to secure 5.5% to 6% from the start.
