Guirassy comeback at VfB Stuttgart still open
It is still uncertain whether goalscorer Serhou Guirassy will play in VfB Stuttgart's home game against Borussia Dortmund. "He's doing quite well so far," said coach Sebastian Hoeneß two days before the game against BVB on Saturday (3.30pm/Sky) and reported that Guirassy had completed parts of the team training session again on Thursday. "We still have to wait and see," explained Hoeneß. "We don't want to take any unnecessary risks." He expects a "precision landing". Guirassy should be able to train fully on Friday in order to be considered for a place in the squad against Dortmund, according to the coach.
Guirassy has already scored 14 goals in the Bundesliga season so far. He has missed the last three competitive matches due to a thigh injury. Stuttgart lost against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (2:3) and 1. FC Heidenheim (0:2) without the 27-year-old, but won the DFB Cup against Union Berlin (1:0) in between.
VfB, with full-back Pascal Stenzel available again after a thigh problem, go into the clash with Dortmund in third place in the table and level on points with fourth-placed Dortmund. The visitors bounced back three days after their 4-0 defeat in the prestigious clash with FC Bayern Munich last Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Newcastle United in the Champions League.
That was a "good reaction" from BVB, said Hoeneß of the runners-up's success in the top flight. However, he was not surprised. Dortmund are basically a "stable team" and "stable on the road".
In the upcoming Bundesliga match between VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund, Serhou Guirassy's participation is still in doubt due to his thigh injury. Regardless of Guirassy's status, VfB Stuttgart will be facing a formidable opponent in Borussia Dortmund, who bounced back from their 4-0 loss to Bayern Munich with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in the Champions League.
