Gröbzig Synagogue Museum celebrates opening without many visitors
The Gröbzig Synagogue Museum in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district has celebrated its official reopening after three years of renovation - albeit without many visitors. A small-scale ceremony was held on Sunday, as announced by the Saxony-Anhalt State Chancellery. Once the exhibition rooms have been refurbished and a new permanent exhibition has been set up, the museum should officially open at the end of 2024.
However, visitors will be able to take a first look at the rooms in the coming days. According to the museum, there will be special opening hours until next weekend as part of the current Jewish Culture Days in Saxony-Anhalt.
The renovation is being funded with more than 615,000 euros. With a great deal of commitment from the museum association and the museum advisory board, it has been possible to raise public awareness of the site and its special significance, said Minister of State for Culture Rainer Robra (CDU) in the run-up to the opening.
The renovation of the Gröbzig Synagogue Museum also includes the creation of memorials to commemorate the Jewish history in the region. Visitors can learn about the rich Jewish heritage and its significance in German history during their visit.
