Price comparison - Grilling with bio-meat is expensive.

Meat products or vegan substitutes on the grill are significantly more expensive than steaks and sausages from conventional livestock farming. According to calculations by the Institute of the German Economy (IW) in Cologne, reported by the Funke Media Group, a example grill basket for four people with meat and dairy products, grilled vegetables, salad, sides, and sauces in organic version costs approximately 80% more than the grill basket with conventionally produced food items. Therefore, four people would have to pay approximately 48 Euro for the organic grill basket, while the conventional one costs around 27 Euro. The institute confirmed the figures upon request.

The organic meat is the main factor influencing the overall price, particularly for bratwurst (an additional 5.32 Euro) and organic beef steaks (an additional 5.98 Euro). The costs for the grilled side dishes, especially vegetables such as peppers (an additional 2.28 Euro), tomatoes (an additional 2.03 Euro), and salad (an additional 1.37 Euro) are significantly higher in organic quality.

An average vegan grill basket (no organic quality) is around 33 Euro (approximately 22% more expensive) than a meat-containing conventional one, but significantly cheaper than one with only organic products.

Per person, the calculation shows approximately 6.70 Euro for the conventional version, 12 Euro for grill products in organic quality, and around 8.20 Euro for the vegan option.

  1. Despite the higher price, many consumers in Berlin and across Germany are opting for nutrition that comes from animal husbandry alternatives, like vegetarian or vegan sausages, as a substitute product.
  2. The Institute for German Economy (IW) in Cologne conducted a price comparison between conventional and organic sausages, revealing a significant price difference between the two options.
  3. When comparing a grilled meal with sausages from conventional animal husbandry and a vegan sausage alternative, the price difference is noticeable, with the vegan option typically costing around 33 Euro.
  4. The Institute for German Economy's findings show that, while organic sausages can be more expensive, the price difference between vegan sausages and conventional options in Germany is substantial.
  5. To save money on their grilled foods, many Germans are looking for price-comparison resources to determine the best value for their budget, whether opting for conventional or vegan sausage options in Berlin and throughout Germany.
