"Werder Bremen is deeply saddened by the loss of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, the 23-year-old Israeli fan who was captured by Hamas in the Gaza Strip last October. After a grueling year, the Israeli military has reportedly recovered his body, along with those of five other hostages. A heartfelt tribute to Hersh was shared by Werder, expressing their heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones. The team's emotion was evident as Hersh's flag continued to fly high at the Weser Stadium.

Fans of Werder have been paying tribute to Hersh and the other hostages in recent times, often reminding each other of their plight. On Saturday's Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund (0:0), a stark reminder was there in the form of a banner that read, 'Hang in there, Hersh'. This was a poignant display of solidarity and support from Bremen supporters."

Werder Bremen expressed their sympathy to Hersh's family, being from Israel, during a moment of silence before their recent match against Eintracht Frankfurt. Germany's football community has also shown solidarity, with many German clubs displaying Hersh's flag during their matches as a tribute to him and his family.
