- Greuther Fürth wants to offer "basic fun"
SpVgg Greuther Fürth aims to provide plenty of entertainment on the pitch in this 2. Bundesliga season. "There should be basic fun at the Spielvereinigung, otherwise we're doing something wrong," said coach Alexander Zorniger ahead of the Franconian footballers' opening game at home against promoted Preußen Münster on Sunday (13:30 CET/Sky). After the matches in the upcoming season, they want to be able to say: "That was awesome, it was worth it."
The Fürth team finished as the strong eighth in the 2023/24 season. They were even the third-best home team and will face Münster in a competitive match for the first time. "Against promoted teams, it's always a bit more intense because they come with a broad chest," said Zorniger, who has been coaching the Fürth team since October 2022. "We're brutally looking forward to it."
More game-changers in Fürth?
Zorniger wants to focus on substitutions in this season, alongside heavyweights like Cologne, Hamburg, or Schalke. Not least, the Euros showed the potential of personnel improvements. They want to ensure "that the appreciation for players who come in as game-changers is there," explained Zorniger.
The turnover in the Fürth team is relatively moderate this summer. The 18-year-old center-back Reno Münz, signed from Bayer Leverkusen, has made a strong impression. "Reno Münz has played himself into the foreground," Zorniger judged the junior national player. "His path will eventually lead to the 1. Bundesliga, I'm sure of that."
The Fürth team is set to face Preußen Münster for the first time in a competitive match following their strong performance as the third-best home team in the 2023/24 season, aiming to provide "awesome" entertainment just like they did in the past. Coach Alexander Zorniger is eager for the match against promoted teams, stating, "We're brutally looking forward to it."
