Bundesliga 2 - Greuther Fürth in the flow: "Then you have the self-confidence"

Captain Branimir Hrgota and his permanent Fürth winners can feel temporarily invincible. Coach Alexander Zorniger's team continued their winning run in the 2nd Bundesliga with a 1:0 (1:0) win at Eintracht in the snow flurries of Braunschweig. SpVgg Greuther Fürth celebrated their fifth win in a row - without conceding a goal.

"When you have the wins behind you, you have the confidence. What also strengthens us is that we keep a clean sheet," said Hrgota after the second away win of the season. "It's clear that we'll concede a goal again at some point. But right now we're simply defending everything away, Jonas (Urbig) is holding onto balls, the defenders are straddling everything away and the attacking players are also trying to do everything they can in defense. That's how you can win a game 1:0."

A penalty kick causes controversy

Zorniger saw a game with two opposing Fürth halves. "We had an extremely dominant performance in the first half with lots of good passing," said the Franconian coach. Julian Green scored the only goal of the game in the first 45 minutes with a penalty in the 31st minute.

"For me, that's a blatantly wrong decision. If the situation is checked, then there is no alternative. We were upset about it on the touchline," said Braunschweig coach Daniel Scherning about the penalty situation when defender Ermin Bicakcic caught Fürth attacker Armindo Sieb on the foot. Referee Daniel Schlager showed two yellow cards to protesting hosts.

Greuther Fürth on course for promotion

Eintracht took control after the changeover. "Braunschweig were clearly the better team in the second half," admitted Zorniger. The team from Lower Saxony pressed hard, but did not seriously threaten the goal of the visitors' keeper Urbig. The most dangerous was a shot from Maurice Multhaup in stoppage time (90.+5).

"You can't expect us to completely control the game here over 90 minutes," said Hrgota. "It happens, there are games like that. You just have to defend everything away." And Fürth did that successfully. They are now just two points behind a direct promotion place.
