Greuther Fürth extends coach Zorniger's contract until 2026
SpVgg Greuther Fürth want to continue their successful path with coach Alexander Zorniger in the long term. The Franconian second-division soccer club has extended the contracts with the 56-year-old head coach and assistant coach Jurek Rohrberg (39), which expire at the end of the season, until June 2026. The fifth-placed team announced the news on Monday.
"We are very pleased with the way we have developed since Alex took over. I appreciate the collaboration with Alex, his drive and how he lives our club," said sporting director Rachid Azzouzi in the statement.
Zorniger took over the Fürth team 13 months ago after their relegation from the Bundesliga, when they were bottom of the 2nd division. After Sunday's 2-0 home win against promoted SV Wehen Wiesbaden, the Cloverleaf are now in a promising fifth place, just behind the promotion zone. They have won all of their last four league games.
"I'm looking forward to more years with the Kleeblatt, because I have the feeling that something is being created here," said Zorniger. He is "in the right place" in Fürth. Looking to the future, the former Bundesliga coach said: "With the youngest team in the league, we have embarked on a journey that is far from over. I am convinced that we will make great strides forward."
Greuther Fürth's current position in Bundesliga 2, being fifth, could potentially see them compete in higher leagues with Zorniger's leadership. In the upcoming Bundesliga 2 matches, Zorniger and his young team aim to continue their successful streak, having won their last four games.
