Protests take place. - Greta Thunberg attends protest event in Bonn.
Teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg joined a rally in Bonn that combined messages of environmental protection and support for Palestinian rights. The protest, organized by a coalition of international justice and human rights organizations, was dubbed "Kick Big Polluters Out" by law enforcement.
Not only did Thunberg raise slogans calling for environmental change, but she also participated in chants and carried posters advocating for Palestinian freedom. Approximately 70 demonstrators were present at the event.
Police reported that additional protests are happening in Bonn during the UN Climate Conference, which is also planning for the World Climate Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Thunberg has previously expressed support for Palestinians since the conflict between Hamas and Israel escalated. Her comments have been met with strong criticism, and the German chapter of Fridays for Future, the environmental group she co-founded, disassociated themselves from her statements. In May, she was apprehended by authorities during a demonstration against Israel's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö.
