Parliament - Greens want to propose Angela Dorn as Vice President

The Greens want to nominate their current Hessian Science Minister Angela Dorn for election as Vice President of the new Wiesbaden state parliament. She would then automatically become a member of the parliamentary group's executive committee, a spokesperson for the Green Party announced on Wednesday. Mathias Wagner was unanimously re-elected as parliamentary group leader.

The Green parliamentarians elected Miriam Dahlke as the new Parliamentary Secretary without any opposition. According to the spokesperson, Jürgen Frömmrich, who has held the position for many years, as well as Hildegard Förster-Heldmann, Vanessa Gronemann and Kaya Kinkel will be deputy group chairpersons in future.

Dorn, who is still Minister of Science, recently told Hessischer Rundfunk radio that although she would remain a member of parliament in the opposition, she would not take up a leading position in either the state parliamentary group or the state party. Tarek Al-Wazir, the former Green Deputy Minister President and Minister of Economics, also announced that he would continue to support his party in word and deed as an elected member of parliament - but no longer in the front row.

The re-elected parliamentary group leader Matthias Wagner announced on Wednesday: "We will be a lively opposition and take on our new task with full vigor." The CDU and SPD in Hesse are currently sounding out the basis for their planned government alliance in coalition negotiations. According to recent statements by CDU state leader and Minister President Boris Rhein, the aim is to sign a coalition agreement on December 18. He had turned down the Greens after almost a decade of black-green government. If a black-red coalition is formed, the Greens will lose their current four ministerial posts. The new state parliament will be constituted on January 18.
