Party conference - Greens want to elect state executive committee at second attempt
Following the aborted party conference on Saturday, the Berlin Greens are making a second attempt to elect their state executive. On Wednesday evening (7 pm) they will meet in Berlin-Kreuzberg. On Saturday, the candidate of the Realo wing, Tanja Prinz, who wanted to become state chairwoman together with the party leftist Philmon Ghirmai, did not receive a majority in three ballots. The state delegates' conference was then canceled. On Wednesday, Nina Stahr, a member of the Berlin Bundestag, will stand for election.
She is to become state chairwoman on an interim basis, as Green parliamentary group leader Bettina Jarasch announced on Tuesday on behalf of the Realo wing. Stahr, who comes from the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district association, has experience in the office: she was already chairwoman of the Berlin Greens from 2016 to 2021 and is to take on the role until May 2024 at the latest.
The question of who should lead the Berlin Greens in the future has caused much uncertainty in the party in recent weeks. Prinz represents a section of the Realos who criticize the state executive and want a more middle-class party.
There was clearly no majority for this at the party conference. If she is elected, Nina Stahr's task will be to prevent a permanent dispute in the party. In addition to the two state chairpersons, a new treasurer and assessors will also be elected on Wednesday evening.
