Finances - Greens criticize impending loss of EU funds
The Greens have criticized the impending loss of EU funding in Saxony-Anhalt. "130 million euros is not peanuts for our federal state," explained state chair Madeleine Linke. The funds would be used to finance positions for scientific staff, for example. "The state government is therefore risking an exodus of skilled workers, which Saxony-Anhalt urgently needs."
According to the Ministry of Finance, around 1.38 billion euros had been committed to the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) by the end of November, but this was only 91.33 percent of the total volume. According to the Greens, this means that the state is not making full use of all the opportunities to promote investment in growth and jobs, for example.
Among other things, the fund is intended to help improve living conditions in structurally weak regions. The projects for the 2014 to 2020 funding period must be completed by the end of 2023. The total volume amounts to 1.51 billion euros.

The Alliance 90/The Greens in Saxony-Anhalt have expressed concern about the potential impact of reduced EU funding on household finances, as the funds were earmarked for vital projects like strengthening scientific research. The Greens argue that failing to utilize the full potential of EU funds could lead to the loss of valuable resources for promoting investments in growth and creating jobs.
