Dresden - Greens call for more help for animal shelters and rescue centers
According to Kummer's words, animal welfare is a collective social responsibility. "We all need to realize that animals are not merchandise that can be returned when not wanted. In the Bund, improvements in animal welfare are currently being worked on. However, the Free State is also obligated to provide stronger support to animal shelters and wildlife rescue stations."
In a position paper, the Greens-Fraktion proposes ways to better support animal shelters and wildlife rescue stations. This includes more money for the implementation of the Animal Welfare Directive. The currently maximum 10,000 Euro for personnel costs were deemed insufficient. The Greens are also in favor of an awareness campaign against illegal puppy trading and the establishment of a comprehensive network of wildlife rescue stations for wild animals, modeled after Lower Saxony.
The Left in the Landtag referred to the fact that they themselves had introduced a corresponding support motion for animal shelters in the Landtag in March, which, however, had not found approval among the Greens. "Instead of making election campaign noise, there would have been enough time to support the cause. That's a shame", said party chair Susanne Schaper.
Position paper of the Greens
- The reception center at the Dresden animal shelter, supported by Alliance 90/The Greens, is advocating for increased funding to exceed the current maximum of 10,000 Euros for personnel costs.
- In Parliament, parties on the left, such as Alliance 90/The Greens and others, are pushing for stronger animal welfare legislation, including better support for animal shelters and wildlife rescue stations across Saxony.
- Despite the Greens-Fraktion proposing ways to improve animal welfare in animal shelters and wildlife rescue stations, their left-wing parliamentary allies criticized them for not acting sooner, citing a denied support motion in March.
- The Green Alliance in Dresden is pushing for a comprehensive network of wildlife rescue stations, modeled after Lower Saxony, to provide better care for wild animals in need.
- Animals at local animal shelters and wildlife rescue stations are receiving greater attention from parties like the Greens, with the goal of improving animal welfare and ensuring that all animals are treated as more than merchandise.
