- Greens "appalled" after attack on election workers

Behind the attack on a Green Party election helper in Hohen Neuendorf (district of Oberhavel), the local Green Party branch sees a general trend. "We are naturally horrified. We, as Greens, are only met with hostility, no matter what we do," said Anne Schumacher, spokesperson for the Oberhavel Green Party branch. "The election campaign is no longer about facts, but emotions. The campaign has changed significantly compared to previous elections."

On Tuesday, a Green Party election helper was attacked and robbed. The state's anti-terrorism unit has taken over the investigation. They are investigating the case as a robbery.

"There was immediate anger and there was immediate violence"

The election helper was distributing Green Party flyers when a unknown man approached him and expressed his displeasure. According to the police, an argument ensued between the two. The attacker pushed the 68-year-old volunteer to the ground and snatched his bag containing the flyers before running away. The volunteer was slightly injured.

The victim, according to the Green Party spokesperson, is relatively tall at about 1.90 meters and is trained in "mediative conversations". Nevertheless, she said, "There was immediate anger and there was immediate violence. How can one still act democratically?"**

Schumacher announced an action by the Greens in response to the attack, but did not provide further details.

The incident has sparked concern within the Green Party, with Schumacher stating, "This is not an isolated incident, but a reflection of the escalating tension during elections." The upcoming election rally is now being planned with increased security measures.
