- Green vault shows stolen jewels back in their old place
The Green Dome will soon display the 2019 stolen and returned jewels in their original location. Initially, media representatives have been invited to a presentation at the Treasury Museum on the upcoming Tuesday. Also, the Saxon Minister-President Michael Kretschmer and Culture Minister Barbara Klepsch (both CDU) plan to inspect the precious exhibits.
The break-in at Saxony's renowned Treasury Museum on November 25, 2019, is considered one of the most spectacular art thefts in Germany. The perpetrators looted 21 pieces of diamond and sapphire jewelry and caused damage of over a million euros, also due to setting one of their getaway cars on fire in the underground garage of a residential building.
Some of the most valuable pieces are still missing
In May 2023, the Dresden Regional Court sentenced five young men from the Berlin Remmo clan to several years in prison. This followed a plea agreement between the parties involved. Part of the agreement was the return of most of the loot. However, some of the most valuable pieces remain untraceable.
The November 2019 jewelry theft at the Treasury Museum was one of the most notable art crimes in Germany. Despite the convictions and returns, some of the stolen jeweled pieces, including the most valuable ones, have not been recovered, making it a continuing case of jewelry theft.
