Personal details - Green politician Trittin wants to resign from the Bundestag
Former Federal Environment Minister Jürgen Trittin wants to step down as a member of the German Bundestag. The Green politician wrote on the X platform (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday that he had informed his parliamentary group that he would be resigning his seat in the new year.
"Now, in the middle of the legislative period, is the right time to leave in a self-determined way," the 69-year-old told Der Spiegel. He looked back on two good years of Green government participation, he said.
Last summer, he noted that he would be a member of the Bundestag for 25 years in the fall. "25 - that's a nice anniversary to say goodbye to." According to Trittin, Ottmar von Holtz from Hildesheim will be his successor. The parliamentary group thanked Trittin for his many years of work.
Trittin has been a member of the German Bundestag since 1998. Under Chancellor Gerhard Schröder (SPD), he was Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. From 2009 to 2013, Trittin was Chairman of the Green parliamentary group in the Bundestag. He has been a member of the Greens since 1980. Before his seat in the Bundestag, he was a member of the state parliament in Lower Saxony, where he was Minister for Federal and European Affairs from 1990 to 1994.
