Green Party conference discusses economic policy

A party conference of the Rhineland-Palatinate Greens in Saarburg on Saturday (10.30 a.m.) will address the challenges of climate-neutral economic activity. The approximately 200 delegates with voting rights want to adopt the principles of a green economic policy in Rhineland-Palatinate in a key motion.

Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Robert Habeck will be present with a video message, and speakers include the deputy federal chairman of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, Heiko Knopf, and the president of the state association of business associations (LVU), Johannes Heger.

The lead motion emphasizes that the transition to a climate-neutral economy is imperative and an opportunity despite all the challenges and risks. Among other things, it calls for the expansion of the hydrogen infrastructure and the transformation of the state-owned Investitions- und Strukturbank Rheinland-Pfalz (ISB) into a climate investment bank.

The Greens also want a "revitalization of the rail network", the maintenance of roads and bridges and new charging points for electric cars. "The economic development of our location must not be slowed down by unnecessary bureaucracy," the motion states.

It also calls for the "rapid disbursement" of the "climate money" agreed in the coalition agreement signed by the coalition government in December 2021. There is still no timetable for this.

During the conference, the Rhineland-Palatinate Greens plan to adopt principles for a green economic policy, including the expansion of hydrogen infrastructure and transforming the ISB into a climate investment bank. At the event, the Greens also emphasize the need for a revitalized rail network, maintained roads and bridges, and increased electric car charging points, aiming to accelerate the disbursement of climate funds agreed in the coalition agreement.
