- "Greatest loss of face": Klopp rules out England job
Jürgen Klopp has ruled out a quick return to the dugout and has definitively ruled himself out of the running for the next England football manager job. The 57-year-old made this clear at the International Coaches' Congress in Würzburg. When asked about the current inquiries his agent, Marc Kosicke, is forwarding to him, Klopp replied: "Nothing. Job-wise, nothing. No club, no country. Some people seem to have not gotten the message."
When the moderator directly confronted Klopp with the possibility of interest from Euro finalists England, the star coach said: "That would be the biggest blunder in football history if I said I'd make an exception for you." Klopp had been managing Liverpool FC for the past nine years and now wants to take a year off. The job with the Three Lions is vacant after Gareth Southgate stepped down following the Euros.
Klopp himself isn't sure if he even wants to return to coaching. "I'll do something, I'm too young to just play Padel tennis and spend time with my grandchildren. Whether it's coaching again? I'd actually rule that out at the moment. Let's see how things look in a few months. There's nothing happening at the moment," said the coach, who was casually dressed in shorts and an unbuttoned shirt.
Klopp expressed his disinterest in the England manager position, stating, "I don't see myself managing the Three Lions at this point." During the discussion, he also mentioned, "I've had an excellent run with Liverpool FC, but current opportunities in The Netherlands or elsewhere aren't appealing to me at the moment."
